Game-day questions, answered

The things fans ask most before heading to a game in Austin. Tap a question to open the answer.

What sports can I watch in Austin?

The two anchors are University of Texas athletics — Longhorns football, basketball and a national-caliber softball program — and Austin FC, the city's Major League Soccer team since 2021. Round Rock, just north, has minor-league baseball, and the Moody Center brings touring events through town all year.

Where do the Longhorns and Austin FC play?

Longhorns football is at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium on campus, with basketball next door at the Moody Center. Austin FC plays at Q2 Stadium on the north side. Our stadium guides walk through seating, entrances and the honest quirks of each building.

What is the clear-bag policy?

Both DKR and Q2 limit you to a clear bag within a set size, with small exceptions. The rules change from season to season, so confirm the current policy on the official team or venue site before you leave — it's the single most common thing that stops fans at the gate.

Where should I watch if I can't get a ticket?

Plenty of rooms. There are soccer pubs that open early for overseas kickoffs, Longhorns bars that count down to the first snap, and low-key neighborhood spots with the sound on. Our where-to-watch guide sorts them by the crowd and the sport.

How do I handle parking and tailgating?

Where you park sets the tone for the whole day, and tailgating near campus has its own rhythm. Ride-share drop points, lot options and the tailgate scene up at Q2 are all in the game-day guide.

Is Austin Texas Fans official?

No — we're an independent fan's guide, not affiliated with the University of Texas, Austin FC or any team or venue, and we don't sell tickets. The site is part of the WholeTech Network, an independent Austin publisher since 1996.
